It was a couple hours before dinner time when Daniel soon notice Peter walking about with his papa, both discussing quietly among themselves as they made themselves towards their home.
He sighs quietly in relief noticing that no one is sending the young boy off to be by himself. The young boy glances to the rabbits before making a small pouch with his shirt before scooping the little bunnies in his arms and makes his way home. He feels the small bunnies burrow against his stomach, nuzzling the warmth that radiated off of him.
Once he made it home, Daniel heads towards his room to set the little bunnies in one of his smaller boxes. He carefully sets the rabbits into the box and places a thin shirt over them to keep them warm before going downstairs to properly greet his parents.
“What was the rush to your room son? Found something?” His dad asks as he helps his mom set the table.
“Yeah! I found some baby bunnies under a scarecrow near the fields by the river,” Daniel said as he wash his hands before helping his parents begin dinner. “What’s for eating mama?”
“Salmon and veggies. I know you like skinning the fish, so we left that for you to do,” his dad joke with a grin before bursting out laughing at his son’s expression.
“Aw. Come on now that’s low dad!” he shouts and goes to gently shoulder bump him but his dad, easily dodge and pokes his face. “You know the rules, last one here does the deer,” he joke before going back to cutting the carrots and broccoli. “You’ll be so bro-cooli if you do it right~”
Daniel and his mother groan at his father’s joke even though both knew it was a way to lighten the air. “Please no dad…that was the worse one yet,” he sigh as he washes his some of the veggies.
“It was kind of funny,” his dad said with a grin, washing the cut veggies with his son. Daniel raises a brow at his father before noticing his glass of orange juice. Daniel picks it up, meeting his dad’s gaze.
“Orange jou glad I can one up you?”
“Please both of you stop or the food will get sour with your horrible puns,” his mother sigh, shaking her head at the two. As she turn her back, Thomas leans down to whisper to Daniel. “I thought it was funny…”
“Get back to work you two or I’m sending you to sleep outside with the goats.” Both quickly focus on their tasks at hand knowing better than to enrage a pregnant woman. Soon dinner was ready and the family of three sat at their table and began eating.
Dinner was uneventful besides his parents talking about their work and the task that they’ll need to do tomorrow when his mother froze in midspeech cause Daniel and Thomas to look at her confuse. She gave them a reassuring smile and rubs her belly gently. “He’s starting to kick more often now…He’s more active you were Daniel. Although you like sleeping on my bladder more often than not.” Daniel whistles innocently and digs his face in his plate. “I have no idea what you’re talking about mother…”
His mother roll her eyes before slowly getting up from her seat. “I’ll be heading off to bed now…Good night you two,” she said smiling.
“Good night, my love. I’ll join you in bed after I finish the dishes.” Thomas said with a smile. His mother smiles an hugs them both before making her way to the bedroom.
Both quickly put away the left overs before cleaning the table and washing the dishes. A calm silence fill the house as they finish their nightly chores before bidding each other good night.
